Aftermath - Hurricane Isaias

We're all safe here and I'm exhausted.   

Dis Storm Tracker job is no joke.

Isaias came on shore as a Cat 1 Hurricane and the eye of da storm went right over us.   Brunswick County (where we live) was the hardest hit as landfall was in our county.

The strongest wind gust were in our county and dey reported >4.07 inches of rain.   Lots of flooding and even house fires on the coast.

It was out of here by 2am.   A fast moving storm.

  

Prior to landfall we had about 4 tornado warnings as we were on the Northeast side of the Hurricane (da bad side).   Some of the tornadoes were really close to us butt dey managed to just avoid us.   Mom and Aunty D were very nervous and I did my best to keep dem calm. 

 

When we were in da "bunker" (our climate controlled storage room wiff no windows) I even managed to sleep.   Mom had moved my bed in dar so I was real comfy.   Mom kept busy playing Online Mahjongg and looking a realtor.com. 

Da good news is dat we never loss power (just some light flickers) and our house is not damaged.   Things are always more scary in da dark.

Dis morning, Mom and Aunty D picked up 4 big bags of downed limbs in da front yard.   Dar are a few out back, butt dey will tackle dem another time.   I think they are both really tired and that naps will be called for, today.

Storm Tracker - TS Isaias

Awww Monday" Blog Hop!

I got my storm tracker gear on and I'm ready for duty.

Here is da current track.   I marked on da map where we live.   Yep..... Wilmington NC and Isaias looks like she is coming to visit.   I love da name "Isaias".   When you bark it out, it just makes you smile.

Dis morning, at 5am, we woke to da weather radio screeching out a a Hurricane Watch.    It has begun.  Arrrggggg.

Right now we are under a Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch.   We are already getting some noisy outer bands wiff lots of boomers (that's what Mom calls thunder).  I get scared in thunder so she thinks dat if she call it "boomers" that it will help.   NOT.

We've been through storms like dis before and everyone is different so we'll see what dis one will bring.   I'm just happy dat it is only a TS or Cat 1 hurricane.   Any bigger would be a huge problem because, wiff Covid-19 out of control, they are asking people to only go to shelters as a last resort.   Some of da beaches asked tourist to evacuate.   I say.... go home tourist until we get dis Covid-19 under control.

Well, I'm on duty and will keep y'all posted as long as we've got power.   Apparently we need dat for me to be able to blog.

Da calm before da storm. Waiting on TS Isaias.

Dey call it da "Dog Days of Summer" and it sure has been really HOT outside (wiff heat index over 100 degrees.)  So I've been doing a lot of chilling out in da house.

I have to rest up because tomorrow Tropical Storm Isaias arrives and I'll be on Storm Tracker duty.

We are not evacuating dis time as right now it is only a Tropical Storm.   

Mom and I are hoping dat it is not too bad as I get scared in biggy storms and lightening/thunder.   I also don't like when da weather radio sounds off wiff tornado warnings.

Pees.... Mask Up!

Not Again - Hurricane Dorian takes aim at Wilmington NC

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...... I'm not happy.   Hurricane Dorian is heading to my house.

We are not evacuating this time and going to ride it out.    I don't like da loud winds and I don't like peeing in the rain so I hope it cruises by us really fast and shifts to the east a bit more.   Dat would be better.

Da Wind in my Furs - Michael

TS Michael has arrived and we're getting bands of rain and lots of wind.  

I kinda like da wind blowing through my furs.... it's wet paws dat I'm not too fond of.

We're all praying dat everyone's roof tarps hold and dat da trees weakened by Florence do not topple.   Some power outages nearby, butt we still have power (so far.. so good).

We have a Tornado Watch.  I like me some wind, but not a tornado.  We're on da east side of the storm and dat's the side dat gets da most tornados.

OMD... da telly just announce dat more hurricane rain and winds are coming our way (to NC)?  
 
Dat just isn't right.  

We are all still trying to recover from Florence.   It's still tarp city here (on roofs dat are not fixed), some of our schools are still not open (due to damage) and people are still trying to deal with severe water damage to their homes.    So sad.

I think we need to change channels and get a new weatherman.

Monday musings

I'm on it, Mom!

We are still working on repairs to da house so I am still busy snoopervising da work.

Tomorrow da ceiling repair guy comes and when he came for da estimate, I thoroughly checked him out (lots of good smells on dem boots).   I can't wait!

Hurricane Flo Update:

• Schools are still closed.  Some are still being used as shelters and others have major damage.
• The college (UNC @ Wilmington) is still closed.  
• Some entire neighborhoods were totally destroyed.  
• Most major roads are now open and supplies are getting in (food, gas, water, etc.)
• Temporary housing and supplies for those displaced is still a Major Issue.
• FEMA's help is questionable (lots of stories about people who loss everything are being rejected).
• Blue tarps are everywhere.
• Huge backlog (weeks/months) for Insurance Adjusters, Roofers, and almost all Trades.
• Mosquitos are everywhere (swarming) and they are spraying in neighborhoods and by the air to try to control the issue.
• Ocean waters (beaches) are currently not safe to swim in (too polluted from run-off and coal ash spill.
• Most rivers and now at normal levels (with a couple of exceptions that are still at flood stage).
• 32 deaths in NC and the total in the Carolinas (NC+SC) and Virginia is 43
• We are an agricultural state and an estimated 5,500 hogs and 3.4 million chickens and turkeys have already died as a result of Florence.
• So far, 700 people have filed complaints with our State Attorney General's office for price gouging.  Grrrrrrrrrr.... it's just not right to take advantage of peeps that have had so much damage.

Home Again (after Florence)

Arrrrrrooooooo !!!!!  
Today we made it back home after we evacuated for Hurricane Florence.    Aunty D found a route that avoided all da road closures, flooding, and river crest.   High Paws for her pawsome navigation skills.
 

Happy to be Home.

After inspecting our house, I am happy to report dat da only house damage was da loss of a big fascia board.   It seems to have flown way in da storm.  
My yard has tree limbs down, an uprooted butterfly bush and leaves and debris.   Not bad and of course I had to inspect/mark it all.

Mom says dat I need a bath after all my evacuating adventures.   I'm not really feeling it as I had a lot of wet paws during da hurricane.   She seem kinda exhausted, so I'm hoping dat she will forget.

I feel really blessed to have survived and dat my house is not too damages.   Dar are loads of peeps dat loss everything and it is a real mess down here.   Da dog water rescues (on da news) made me sad dat their peeps left dem behind.  

Keep dos paw prayers coming as dar are lots of peeps and pups and kitties dat need dem.

Stormtracker - Florence (Thursday Update)

Dis is Ranger, your WBLOGville Stormtrack Weather Dog.    And now for da latest update on Florence.

Florence has landfall in Wilmington, NC (where I live).   Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Fierce winds, loads of rain and no power back home.   It is supposed to go on for a long time.   I'm riding da hurricane out in Southern Pines (plaid paw marks da spot).

Here in Southern Pines it is scary/creepy windy butt we do   Uncle Jim had to go to work today (at the NC Zoo in Asheboro, NC) and left early, but had to turn around and is on his way home.    I'm glad he is back home safely.   I like all my peeps close by.

Thanks to all of my furfriends dat have dar paws crossed and sending pawprayers.

I hope dat our house is not too damaged but are thankful dat I am safe with Mom, Aunty D and Uncle Jim (and dat we currently still have power).  I even got to see Uncle Jim's daughter (Alana) last night.   She is a college now in UNC @ Chapel Hill and they shut down da college so she came home for a brief visit.

Stormtracker - Florence (Tuesday Update)

OMD...... I only got a little space.  
I usually get the entire backseat.

Evacuation
Dis morning Mom and Aunty D loaded up our evac-o-car.   Dey kept going in and out of da house and I was a bit worried dat they might not have room for me, but they finally took my bed out and lifted me into the car.

We headed out of town at first light and arrived at Uncle Jim's house by 10am.  He doesn't live dat far from us, but at least it is not Wilmington, NC.

Upon arrival, I had to explore/inspect the entire place.   Arrrrrrrooooo... Uncle Jim has a HUGE big screen TV.   Dis vacay is going to be pawsome!

And now for the latest update on Florence.    Tuesday evening - Florence is heading directly for my house and is forecast to be a Cat 3 when it landfalls.   Den it will sit over us and slowly move down toward Myrtle Beach.  Dis is not a good scenario.   High winds and lots of flooding rain for an extended period of time.   Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.   I don't know about you, but I don't really like wet paws.   Y'all stay safe.

Stormtracker - Florence (Monday Update)

Here's the update dis morning:   Florence is scheduled to be a Cat 4 at landfall and a direct hit to Wilmington, NC (my house).   Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. 

Mom says dat we are going to get out of Dodge tomorrow after Aunty D's doctors apt.   Hopefully da exit routes will not be parking lots. 

Where is Dodge?   It's not on my weather map.  

   

I've got my treat and stuffies all packed in my Chewy boat.

Stormtracker - Florence

OMD.   Looks like a Cat 4 Hurricane is making its way toward a direct hit in my hood.
Let's hope it makes a sharp right paw turn and goes back out to sea.

We live on the coast (plaid paw print, marks da spot) so we may have to evacuate.   Road trip!

Today, I'm going to start to get ready and pack up all my good toys and balls in my trusted Chewy.com box so I'm ready for da Road Trip.   Mom says that she'll make sure dat I have plenty of food and snacks.

Da Day after Irma

Arrrrroooooo!  Irma is gone.

We got about 4"s of rain and wind, but dat's all.   I had wet paws and didn't like going outside in all da wind and rain but by da afternoon, it was sunny.  We were lucky and I'm still sending up prayers for all dos affected by Irma and Harvey.





Since it was so sunny, Mom and Auntie D decided it was a good day for a ride in da car.   When they asked me if I wanted to go, I jumped at the chance.   Ya see, I LOVE going for rides in da car and couldn't wait to see where we are going.

Sometimes, I try to get into da front seat but Mom says dat I can't drive cuz my paws will not reach da petals.   Drat.

OMD...... we went to my all time favorite place!
We went to da BEACH!!!

Funny how it is always a beautiful day
after a storm.

I made lots of new friends at da beach.
All da peeps think I'm handsome.
Trips to da beach is always an ego booster for me.

Pees.... we are still keepin' and eye on Hurricane Jose but Mom's insurance guy says dat it won't be a problem.   "Trump will not let him into da country wiffout da proper papers and dos have blown away".
(just a little insurance adjuster humor).

Irma - Out of da Cone (for now)

Dis morning, Irma has shifted to da west.   Dis is really bad news for all my furfriends in Florida, as Irma is project to cruise right up through Florida.

It is better news for us, as we are no longer in da cone of uncertainty and none of us like da cone.    Right now we are only supposed to get rain and wind from the outer bands of dis massive storm.

Things can change, so I'm still on da job and continue to track Irma's whereabouts for Mom.

Irma - Cone of Uncertainty

Today, I am here to report dat we are in da "Cone of Uncertainty".

Da governor has declared a  State of Emergency for all counties in NC.
All road construction has been suspended so all lanes throughout the State are open for anyone evacuating through our State.

Hummmm......maybe I should get my Chewy box-boat ready.

All eyes are now on Irma

I'm keepin' a close watch on Irma for Mom.
She says dat she can't watch anymore so I'm on da job (and have my favorite buoy toy close by).

In the meantime, we've been gettin' tons of rain and I'm tired of havin' wet paws.
If Irma visits us with more rain and high winds, loads of trees will likely topple since we are already so saturated.  I'm not sure what saturated means butt da man on da telly seems concerned.

Aftermath of Matthew

Yesterday we woke up (in the wee early hours) to da weather alert radio screeching out dat we had a Tornado Warning.  Yikes.... da peeps did not like being woke up so early to dat.      It was a loud morning (about every 20 mins we got another and different alerts).   Luckily all da tornados dat the radio announced did not come into my hood.    It was quite da morning.  

Oh, did I remember to say dat Mom is not pleasant when she don't get enough sleep?   She made me wear my leash in da house all day (so she could easily catch me if we needed to go to our safe place in da house).     AND I didn't get to go outside to play or get my long walkies.    It was a run out and pee and den back in the house kinda day.  

Still windy out here.

We loss power last night at 8:30pm but it was back on this morning by 8:30am.   Thank you utility crews.


I dragged Mom and Aunty D outside so I could do a walk-about dis morning to inspect my hood.   Dis is a popular pee-mail post.   Can you tell?

I got introduced to tons of palm fronds.  

I was going to leave some peemail on dem ALL but it was too many.

I drank a ton of water when I got home.   Had to refuel.

OMD...... a big tree is down on my favorite walking trail around da lake!

Da only damage to our house is some siding da lost a battle wiff Matthew's winds.   They reported 75 mph winds at da airport last night.   

We were very lucky but Aunty D says next time if it is Cat 2 or more.... we'll evacuate.

Preparing for Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew is heading my way (Wilmington NC).
We're supposed to loads of wind and 9-12 inches of rain.
